Getting Back Outside

Tonight I realized I hadn’t taken the telescope out in ages. The moon was crystal clear and high in the sky, and I realized even Jupiter was still hanging around. It was freezing out and having no real goals I didn’t care too much about focus or collimation, I just wanted to have a nice time.

First up, I used Jupiter to align my finder scope and used the moons to dial in the focus. This was taken with my ZWO290MC camera and a 3x barlow lens. Stacking was done in autostakkert and wavelets in registax.

Next I thought I would take a photo-stitch of the whole moon, but decided it was way too cold out for that. Instead I picked a few interesting spots and worked on getting a good stack and heading back inside. I love when the light really highlights the southern pole of the moon.

I may have gone a bit overboard with the wavelets, but I was trying to highlight all those craters and mountains. The moon is always gorgeous!
