My First Time Experiencing Totality

In 2017 I would have loved to travel to see the eclipse but with tiny children it wasn’t possible. For years I planned on seeing the 2024 eclipse and decided to travel to upstate NY to be in totality. My wife and kids made the trek with me which was a special experience.

Sadly Monday was a cloudy day and we weren’t able to see the disc of the sun. Of course Sunday and Tuesday were gorgeous, as is always the way! I was able to get some brief phone pictures of the early stages of the eclipse before clouds fully obscured the view.

The town of Fulton NY had a lovely event to view the eclipse. We were on a beautiful south-facing lake, the kids had bounce houses and lots of other activities. They did a wonderful job!

While we didn’t get to see the ring of the eclipse or the suns corona we still got to experience the full darkness. It got dark, the temperature dropped, birds stopped chirping, it was magical.

It was a wonderful trip to see my first totality and I’m looking forward to future eclipses. It took 4 hours to get to our viewing location and over 8 hours to get home, but it was absoltuely worth it and I’d do it again in a heartbeat. 2026 in Iceland perhaps?
